Your driver and your private english speaking guide will meet you at the hotel ready to guide you all day long through the most significant archeological and naturalistic site of the Naples Bay, Pompeii, Herculaneum and, after lunch, a glimpse on the top of the Natural Park of the Mount Vesuvius, the most famous and dangerous volcano of the world ( still active ).
Pompeii too is possibly the most famous excavation in the world, buried for 1,700 years, has been brought to life again and where you can see how the citizens of the greatest empire the world has ever known lived and loved, worked and played, ate and drank and died. Entering Pompeii by the Sea Gate you will be guided first in the Forum, Pompei's main square, surrounded by temples, porticoes and law courts. 20,000 people lived in this provincial town, of which 2,000 perished in the horrifying eruption of Vesuvius in AD 79. Twenty feet of volcanic ash and pumice stone covered the town. Much of this has been removed over the last 200 years to reveal the details of everyday life in Pompeii.
After the Pompeii guided tour, you will go to Herculaneum, also buried by Mt. Vesuvius in 79 A.D.
This magnificent Roman town was a holiday resort for the Roman rich. You will admire its wonderful houses with impressive frescoes and mosaics. While Herculaneum is smaller than Pompeii, its buildings are much better preserved.
After your private guided tour of Pompeii and Herculaneum, you will have lunch time to recharge a little bit the batteries to be ready for the trip up to Mt. Vesuvius.
Your guided tour of Mt. Vesuvius begins with the slow trip up the windy road up the hill until the parking lot to the crater. You must leave the car behind here and take a 30-minute hike of moderate difficulty to the top, which reaches nearly 4,200 feet. The views and fresh air here are well worth the effort.
Return back to the parking lot and drive back to the hotel.
