CAMEOS
Cameo-carving is one of the most striking activities of the artisan class in the world. The boundary between its handicraft and art is extremely slender and it is often surpassed by these men who are really the heirs of a long artistic traditions built up during centuries by the masters in cameo-carving since remote ages. Indeed, the cameo identifies itself today with minute works of carving on shells. Cameo has always meant every stone worked in relief, and more exactly the works in which are used the different layers of semiprecious stones for the differentiation of the colors in the various plans of the relief itself. So in the cameo the stone is carved from the front with the picture or profile in relief. Differently in the Intaglio the stone is carved from the rear with the background in relief.
Cameo Production is a very delicate operation. From the selection of raw materials to cutting and carving them into beautiful creations we pay great attention. Our craftsmen bring together a blend of the old traditional techniques with the new, creating magnificent works of art.
Among the different Cameo Materials, shells like sardonyx and carnelian and tiger, having from two to eight layers of color, give a perfect opportunity to the Cameo Carvers.Cameo Production is a very delicate operation, since ancient times, cameos have been prized by collectors and jewelers. The craftsmanship gives it a life and personality all its own.

CORALS
Used both as stone in jewellery as well as in the creation of decorative objects, coral (from the Greek kora halos “maiden of the sea”) is a precious creature of the depth of the sea.
Corals used to create artifacts derive mainly from Japanese and Mediterranean Seas. The Mediterranean variety, caught in Italy (Calabria, Campania,Sicily and Sardinia) , has a characteristic red color and was the most commonly used in the 19th century.
The city of the Coral” par excellence in Italy is Torre del Greco (near Naples), the third goldsmith centre in Italy. The Campania town, whose thriving manufacturing activities are renowned all over the world, employs thousands of professionals with hundreds of medium to large sized companies on the territory and a considerable number of small laboratories.
Today the Campania area of Torre del Greco excels as Italy’s major coral manufacturing centre.Creative imagination and stylistic perfection still make Torre del Greco’s handicrafts greatly demanded all over the world; handicrafts which are appreciated however not only for the manufacture but also for the splendid cameos in bas-relief semi-precious stones.

MARQUETRY
The origin of sorrentine marquetry dates back to the VI and VII centuries with the benedectine monks. Although in the XVI century several master carpenters from Sorrento were already executing the inlaying of wood in choir stalls for neapolitan churches and furniture for the nobles' palaces, a real cabinet-making industry has only grown since the beginning of the 19th century.
In 1866 an art school was instituted to initiate the younger generation in the art of marquetry, a patient, delicate job, which transforms a slender piece of wood into an elegant embroidery for an infinite number of objects.
At first marquetry was closely tied to wood engraving and decorations reproducing pompeian and classic motifs. Later the engravings acquired a more realistic trend.
Craftsmen began to represent landscapes, so enriching the artistic content. In a brief period a long line of master artisans was formed creating the basis for the development of an art which has given Sorrento world fame, and wich represents today one of the mainstays of the local economy.

CAPRI PARFUMES
Legend has it that in 1380 the father prior of the Carthusian Monastery of St. Giacomo was taken unawares by the mews of the arrival on Capri of the Queen Giovanna D' Angio' and so made a flower arrangement with the most beautiful flowers of the island. The water was not changed for three days and, when the flowers were trouwn away, the prior noticed that the water acquired a fragrance unknown to him. He went to the father alchemist who traced the origin of this scent back to the "Garofilium Silvestre Caprese". That water became the first perfume of Capri. The tradition is now being continued and the limited production means being able to use the same methods as the Carthusian monks. All the preparations are made from genuine products of high quality and even the end product is hand-wrapped. The essence derived from rosemary picked on Monte Solaro is used in men's products, while the essence of Capri wild carnation is used in women's fragrances.
