Herculaneum and Caserta Royal Palace guided tour

Meeting point and pick-up with driver and licensed tour guide at the hotel /pier, driving northwards you'll reach first the Royal Palace of Caserta, an architectural masterpiece which was designed by Luigi Vanvitelli in the 18th century and comprises 1,200 rooms connected by 34 staircases and illuminated by 1,970 windows ! You will admire the theatrical effects of the Grand Staircases and the vaulted ceilings with their frescos.
Tour the gardens and see the great waterfall with its marble statues showing Actaeon at the moment of being transformed by the goddess Dianna into a stag.
Afterwards, in about 40 minutes drive you will reach the archeological site of Herculeneum, here your tour guide will bring you back into the Roman Imperial age for a 2 hours guided tour. Dating back to the 4th century BC, the city was thought to have been founded by the legendary Hercules.
This elite Roman resort was devastated by the same volcanic eruption that buried Pompeii in 79 AD. This is an excursion that cannot be missed, unlike the ash and lava that devastated Pompeii, Herculaneum was covered by a torrent of mud, which protected the ruins from atmospheric agents and illegal excavators.
